Bric Break: Retail Sales: Single Concept of the Year
Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises’ (CPPE) BRIC Break has been recognized by the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) as a recipient of one of the 2024 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards.
The prestigious Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards annually celebrate and recognize exemplary and innovative campus dining services in higher education across North America.
BRIC Break entered and placed silver in the “Retail Sales: Single Concept of the Year” category against notable competition in campus dining including the University of Arizona and University of Maryland. The category was open to any stand-alone dining unit that was not inside a marketplace concept.

Centerpointe Dining Commons: Residential Dining Facility
Centerpointe Dining Commons and the Secoya and Sicomoro residence halls have earned LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED Certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability, achievement and leadership. The projects were scored by the USGBC and awarded Gold based on their carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality.

Cal Poly Pomona Chef Wins Pastry Chef of the Year Award - 2017
Fionna Espana, the morning lead chef at Cal Poly Pomona’s Los Olivos dining hall
Fionna Espana, the morning lead chef at Cal Poly Pomona’s Los Olivos dining hall, has been named 2017 Pastry Chef of the Year presented by the American Culinary Federation (ACF) Chefs De Cuisine Association of California, Los Angeles chapter.
The competition included chefs with over 30 years of experience in the culinary industry. Criteria for the award includes being a well-rounded chef, from pastry to main courses, and using those skills to benefit the community. Espana’s volunteer work ranges from helping young chefs land jobs in kitchens in her role as student president for ACF California to baking 100 pies on Thanksgiving for community events and volunteering her skills for Veteran’s Day events.
